(1898-1976) Born in Kuortane, Finland. Thanks to his original style and unique talents, Alvar Aalto is one of the greatest names in modern architecture and design. During his career, he designed many buildings in different parts of the world: concert halls, libraries, hospitals, museums, and private homes, including the Villa Mairea. His furniture and lamps, often starting out as a part of the buildings he designed, are produced together with Finnish Artek.

Born in Lahti, Finland, in 1943, Nurminen has worked for over 20 years in the iittala and Nuutajärvi glass factory. She has just celebrated 30 years as an artist and is known for making unique glass designs in addition to functional objects. Being very familiar with glass-making techniques, she has also been involved in generating new ones. Nurminen’s big break came in 1988, when she created the Mondo glassware for Iittala. Her work is presented in numerous museums and collections around the world.
