Our history
WHAT IS RIG-TIG?
RIG-TIG by STELTON is the new modern brand of kitchenware that brings both function and design to the kitchen. The basic philosophy behind RIG-TIG is functionality and off course we do not compromise on the design. RIG-TIG is also conscious about our environment. Therefore we try to reduce the environmental impact of producing RIG-TIG when it’s possible.
WHERE DID THE IDEA FOR KITCHENWARE COME FROM?
We have seen an increasing interest in design articles for the home in the last 10 years all over the world – with different speed in different countries. During the last 2 or 3 years we have more specifically seen an increasing interest in articles for the kitchen. Probably since the kitchen as a room gets a more and more prominent meaning and position in our homes. We consider the kitchen a room of its own and social meetings are more and more often taking place in the kitchen.
Additionally, the living patterns of today are changing quickly. People get together, they get children, they leave each other, they meet new partners and so on. So consumers have changing living situations and thus needs. And we know that they always need basic kitchen articles. We want to offer them functional items that are great to look at and that are affordable.
WHY “RIG-TIG” – AND WHY NOT STELTON?
With the Stelton brand we are working with design articles within 4 categories: Tabletop, home accessories, personal accessories and “gourmet kitchen” – i.e. articles for the finer dining table/room. We are proud of our gourmet line, but realize that there is a great market for articles targeted to another type of kitchen and at another price level. We also know that the target group of this type of products is somewhat different from the target group of Stelton. So we decided to create a completely new brand with its own universe and brand values.
And why the name RIG-TIG? We consulted linguistic professors and other professionals who came up with all sorts of suggestions, including (Michael) Ring design and other names in that direction. However, we kept on coming back to the type of products we want to market: the RIGHT products with the RIGHT design that are RIGHT for the environment and at the RIGHT prices. So RIG-TIG (which means right) was born and today we couldn’t imagine another name for our brand!
WHY “BY STELTON”?
Well, Stelton as a company is all about design and we love great design here at Stelton. So even though “function” is the main value of RIG-TIG, the brand does originate from the designhouse Stelton and we would never produce anything that we didn’t think was great design. “By Stelton” is a guarantee for that.
FOR WHOM IS RIG-TIG?
RIG-TIG is actually for everyone that values functionality and great design and that cares about our environment. With the prices of RIG-TIG we have made it possible for most people to buy into the concept. But if we should describe the typical RIG-TIG consumer it is a person between 20-45 years that lives in the city and enjoys going out as well as socializing at home. She or he has an opinion about what is going on in the society and uses several media to get information: news papers, social media, Smart phones, magazines, TV etc. RIG-TIG is for the modern consumer that values aesthetics, but not for every price.
Our values
RIG-TIG by STELTON has 3 values: Function, design and resources.
FUNCTION With RIG-TIG we want to provide optimal functionality! We think that the kitchen is a very important and exiting part of the home, but we also know that most of us have limited time to spend in the kitchen and we know that a lot of kitchens are of limited space. So, when designing our RIG-TIG items we always think about how we can make life a bit easier. Could we save space, could we save time, could we remove small moments of irritation? Our set of storage boxes is an example of saving space. All boxes fit each other and no matter how you choose to combine them they can always be stacked, taking up as little space as possible. Another example is our multi tools that all have multiple functions – saving you space, time and dish wash – they are simply just a bit smarter than normal tools.
DESIGN We love good design here at Stelton and we could never produce anything that we didn’t think look great. So, functionality is a high priority for RIG-TIG, but that doesn’ t mean that we compromise on design. Because we don’t. We have cooperated with a group of excellent designers from around the world and their work has resulted in several attractive design solutions for the kitchen. Why shouldn’t kitchenware look as great as possible? RIG-TIG follows the Scandinavian, minimalistic design approach. We fancy simple lines and ”douche” colours, we do think that simplicity and clarity lead to good design and we try to strip our items to their essentials.
RESOURCES The environment is such a big part of everyone’s life and it’s important that we all contribute to a better environment if and when we can. Therefore we try to reduce the environmental impact of producing RIG-TIG when it’s possible and makes sense. We do this through the materials we choose for our products, through the packaging, which we try to reduce to a minimum and through the functions of our products. If we can make life a bit greener, we happily will:
Packaging
We reduce the packaging to a minimum and the packaging we do have is made of recyclable materials. A lot of our products only have a simple sticker, others a piece of cardboard with natural strings to attach them.
The materials we use for our products
Now, it is not always possible to use environmentally sound materials, we do have to consider practical issues too, but when it makes sense we do so. For some of our products we use pure bamboo and in others we have added 30% bamboo fibres to the melamine. In this way we reduce the use of melamine and use a natural material instead. Additionally, we know that bamboo is an environmentally sound material; bamboo grows up to 1 meter a day and thus grows much faster than e.g. trees. Bamboo releases more oxygen than other plants and thus re-circulates larger volumes of Co2 – thereby you contribute positively to the Co2 development when you use bamboo. Another example is that we use WPC (wooden plastic composite) where surplus wood is added to plastic, once again using less plastic and more natural material.
The functions of our products
When we develop our products, we also consider the environment. If we can make life a bit greener we happily will. Our coffee collector is one example of a product that due to its functionality hopefully can help all of us to save resources. Instead of rinsing out the coffee grounds from you coffee press directly in your sink using a lot of water, you can now easily take your coffee collector out of the press and throw the coffee grounds where it belongs – in the green bin.

OUR VISION RIG-TIG wants to be a trendsetting brand for kitchen articles where function and design are combined to a perfect balance. RIG-TIG wants to reduce the influence on the environment by minimizing resources where it makes sense.
OUR MISSION RIG-TIG wants to be the first choice within kitchen articles for consumers that value products with optimal functionality, a great design and the environment - at reasonable prices.
