iittala
Iittala creates objects that are thought through in form, function and quality. Objects with a clear thought, created to achieve long lasting everyday use and inspiration. Whether in metal, wood, porcelain or glass, Iittala design objects are tools for contemporary living
Iittala continues to be a major driving force of Scandinavian design with legendary designers Kaj Franck (1911-1989) and Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) as the cornerstones for the brand. Iittala objects are design essentials stripped to their core; the pure union of function, form and quality that demonstrates our core philosophy of lasting everyday design against throwawayism.
When Timo Sarpaneva sketched 1956 a new glass collection for iittala, he supplied equal the Logo you today sees equivalent also. The white i in the red circle was promoted too iittalas to companies and brand names. The Seirie differed from everything that he had up to then made. With failed art articles and kunstglas Sarpaneva had already celebrated triumphs. The i-line of iittala was the counterpart. The customs glass collection avoided each eccentricity. It was of beginning of the modern product Design in the Finnish glass industry and a turning point of firm history. Iittala, of Swedish Glasbläsern 1881 based, had preserve-placed only for many decades banal everyday life glass. During the First World War she came into the possession 1917 of the Karhula company, which brought the plants up to date. For the 30's (of Karhula) several artistic competitions were written out, in which I actively took part also the married couple Alvar and Aino Aalto. Its drafts, everything in front the Aalto vase (Savoy vase), have today almost mythische Beteutung, it experiencing ducks your Revival however only in the late 70's. A selection of Aino Aaltos famous iittalas presspressgläsern (Bölgeblick) went even only 1994 again into production. Iittalas golden time began only after the Second World War. 1946 was adjusted two young artists, Tapio Wirkkala and Kaj franc. Their work deviated strongly from up to then usual ones. Later Tapio Wirkkala took over the artistic line and the young Timo Sarpaneva began for iittala to work. Sarpaneva and Wirkkala were first Design star, whose name this very day each first grader in Finland knows. Finally set Sarpaneva with the Finlandia series (Ultima Thule), blown in dry wood form, a further trend with iittala, which continued into the 70's, for decade of the wing over, in whose Nachwehen Finland independent glassworks in the group of hooking one came up. 1990 occurred the chopping one entrepreneurial group by the acquisition of the Arabia Porzellanfabrik Helsinki, the Gustavsberg and Rörstrand factories in Sweden and the Iittala and Nuutajärvi glassworks Finland a new enterprise sector. Together these enterprises formed the complex iittala with the ranges glass, porcelain, cutlery and mess kit.
iittala is a large-scale enterprise, which operates within and outside from Europe. iittala products in three countries produce. In addition iittalas products on all continents are sold.
For quite some time one endeavors again strengthened around a product range and it up-to-date geliengt itself more and more at staying successes to tie. Apart from renomierten names like the glass poets and glass artists Oiva Toikka and the franc Preisträgerin Kerttu only mines refurbish young designers such as Annaleena Hakatie, Harri Koskinen, Alfredo Häberli, Antonio Citterio, Stefan Lindfors, Gorgio Vinga, Heiki Orvola, Pentagon Design, Björn Dahlström, Klaus Haapaniemi and many more, the current collection of iittala. This is to get cut by Eibeziehung of foreign designers now also internationally.
Iittala arranges articles, which differ by form, function and in the quality to others. Articles with a free thought, causes, in order to obtain long-lived daily use and inspiration. Whether in metal, wood, porcelain or in glass, Iittalas of Design articles and tools for contemporary life manufactured. Iittala makes Kaj Franck for far at the main drive strength of the Scandinavian Design with legendary designers (1911-1989) and Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) as the foundation-stones for the mark iittala are important. Iittala articles are the Design features, which are stripped to their core; the pure connection of the function, which is form and the quality, our core philosophy of the durable daily Design against Wegwerffismus is.
Iittala the group is clay-indicating for Homeware products, which are based on modern Scandinavian Design. On the Heimarktmärkten Finland, Sweden and Norway is iittala market leader with to the group go-eye-end marks Arabia, Hackman, iittala, BodaNova, Höganäs ceramic(s), Rörstrand and Hoyang Polaris. On the international markets is the attention on the development of the mark iittala. The conversion iittala of the group was in 2005 about 168 million euro with 1388 Mitabeiter and 19 iittala Flagship Shops.

| [iittala, Marimekko] |
Professor Oiva Toikka is one of the greatest names in Finnish glass. His imaginative, rich and bold glass art deviates from the streamlined aesthetic of Nordic design. He has worked in the performing arts for as long as he has in glass. The Birds collection is Toikka’s best-known work. He has enjoyed an international career and received numerous awards, among them Lunning Prize, Pro Finlandia Medal, World Glass Now 85 Award, Kaj Franck Design Prize and the Prince Eugen Medal.
