Blays Denmark

At the Formland Fair on February 3-6 2006 in Herning, the company ‘Blays’ will launch its first series of porcelain and textiles.
The first series named ‘Butterfly’ consists of two dinner sets in fine porcelain as well as table cloths and napkins in satin-wowen cotton.

‘Today’s consumers have a very well-developed sense of both quality and design – and this is exactly what we offer’ says owner and designer Josephine Blay.

‘Top-of-the-line quality as in the old days and a modern, graphic playing with the butterfly decor are the hallmarks of ‘Blays’’.

At the question ‘why butterflies’, Josephine Blay says:
‘The butterfly is marvelous. It represents finesse, lightness and freedom.

The butterfly reminds me of childhood moments: when we were sitting naked around a beautifully laid table, having strawberries with cream in my grandmother’s garden. Once in a while we saw a butterfly, ‘Oh, look, a butterfly!’ we said - a simple life without worries and with a mental state of mind that would take us through the winter time.

The butterfly tells me that we must live our life to the fullest. That we should take our time and do what we feel we must do. We must follow our hearts and cherish the good moments.

That is what we intend with ‘Blay’s Butterfly’ series of porcelain and textiles. We believe that, being able to gather around a table and spend time together and to put life in a lower gear for a while, is very giving and healthy for all of us

To me the butterfly represents memorable moments’
The two porcelain series consist of coupe-shaped plates of 31, 27, and 21 cm, respectively, along with a 16 cm bowl and a teacup with saucer.

Top-quality, classic, light-coloured table cloths go along with the dinner sets with elegant hem-stich on four sides and embroidered logo. Sizes are 160 x 280 and 160 x 200 cm with napkins 50 x 50 cm.

The ‘Blays Butterfly’ series is born to become a modern classic.
‘Blay’s’ products will be available in selected shops as from 1 March 2006.

The story about... and behind Blays

Blays is a 100% Danish-owned company,
developing and producing porcelain, crystal
and textile designware.

Blays takes its name from designer Josephine
Blay, the creative person behind the
collections.

Her interest in tableware comes from her
Grandmother, who always managed to set
a beautiful table to welcome family and
friends. “Being able to gather around a table
and spend time together is a privilege
that we should honour”, she said.
A philosophy Josephine has taken to her
heart and which inspired her to launch her
own label.
“Living life in the fast lane, being a mum, a
housewife, and running a business, my
tableware has to be like a good pair of
jeans: great for everyday use and easy to
dress up for special occasions” Josephine
says.

Her series called “Butterfly” consists of
porcelain dinner sets, crystal drinkware,
tablecloths, cushions and bedlinnen.
To the question “why butterfl ies?” Josephine
says: “The butterfl y is marvelous. Looking
fragile but being strong, or looking strong but
being fragile - just like us human beings.

The butterfl y reminds me of lovely childhood
moments, playing and eating strawberries
in my Grandmothers garden - I often felt
like staying in the moment to make it last
forever”.

Blay’s supports Unicef and all our suppliers
work under a code of conduct - an agreement
regarding ethics, human rights and
the environment.

Blays crystal series sparkles and tingles with
its elegance and simplicity.
Wine glasses and carafes are created so
that the bouquet is retained when decanted,
providing the user with what to expect of a
perfect glass.
Delicately detailed it is uniquely distinctive
with its small symbol of a butterfly.
